The newsroom

From the first draft to the reader, in one place

A workspace that helps your team run the day’s content without forcing a complicated way of working on it.

  • Publishing and order

Sections and keywords, drafts kept for the right moment, the main story pinned with the picture you choose.

  • Authors with a face

A page for every author, and many articles given to one author with a single click.

  • A picture library

One library per site, each picture kept with its description, its author and its licence.

  • Published corrections

Every correction is recorded on the article and shown to the reader.

  • Comments you run

Pin a comment, hide it, or bring it back from the panel.

  • Readers everywhere

A read count for every article, your site in several languages, and a phone app that shows your news.

The article

An article your reader can trust

This is an article on MADAR, a demo paper built on the platform.

  • The picture carries its author and licence
  • The sources are listed at the endEach one links to the page it came from.
  • Byline, date, category and read count

Stories and terms

Stories that develop, terms explained once

  • The story, not just the item

When an event develops, link its items into one story. The reader sees what came before and what is new, and can read it from the start.

  • Explain a term once

Define an organisation, a concept or a place once. Every mention of it in every article becomes a link to its page, with a short hint under the pointer. Different spellings of the same name are recognised, and words worth explaining are suggested.

Ways to show

Show each story the way it should be read

Choose how every part of your site shows its articles, and give the reader more than one way in.

  • A news list and a slider
  • A timeline and a map of the news
  • A section read like a book
  • A tag cloud, the latest comments, the most read

Your correspondent who never sleeps

The news wire reads your sources through the day, gathers what different outlets say about the same event, and writes a new piece in your site’s language. Then it waits for you.

Try it yourself

How the wire works

From the source to a draft ready for review

Every step can be followed, and the editorial decision stays yours.

  1. Add sources

Paste the feed address of any agency or paper.

  2. It gathers

It reads them through the day.

  3. It joins the coverage

The same event from several outlets becomes one story, with how many carried it.

  4. It writes

A short new piece in your site’s language, at the length you choose.

  5. It finds a picture

Real and openly licensed, with its author, or your default picture.

  6. It suggests the section

Where the piece belongs on your site.

  7. You decide

Accept it, keep it as a draft, or refuse it. Nothing is deleted; a refused story can come back.

  8. Every language

Once accepted, it is written in each other language of your site, with the same picture.

Safe publishing

A new piece, never a copy of someone else’s

  • Nothing copied

It never republishes a source’s text or pictures. It writes a short new piece and links every source.

  • You decide

Nothing reaches your site before you approve it, unless you switch on automatic publishing.

  • Sources in many languages

It reads them in their language and writes in yours.

  • A budget you can see

What was spent this month, what is left, how many pieces were written, and a ceiling it never passes.

  • Told when a source stops

A source that no longer answers is flagged.

  • A byline you choose

Accepted pieces are signed by a writer or a desk from your team.

Questions

Does the wire copy other sites’ articles?

No. It writes a short new piece from what several outlets reported and links each of them. It never republishes their text or their pictures.

Which languages does it write in?

It reads sources in any language and writes in your site’s language. Once a story is accepted, it can write it in every other language of your site.

Can it publish without me?

Only if you switch automatic publishing on. We advise reading first: a machine writer can mistake one scientific term for another.

Where do the pictures come from?

From open archives such as Wikimedia Commons, with their author and licence, or your own default picture.

What does writing cost?

Pieces are written by an AI service you choose, under your own key, and you set a monthly ceiling. A free service can be used too, with your review before publishing.

Do I need the wire to publish articles?

No. Articles works on its own; the news wire needs Articles.
