Sections and Addresses

Sections and AddressesUniSoftCo

A section is a mini-site: its own design, its own logo, its own contacts. Everything else follows from that.

Before anything else on this platform makes sense, one idea has to: a section is not a folder. It is a small site of its own living inside a larger one.

A section owns its own look

Give a section a design and it wears that design — its own header, its own footer, its own logo for a light background and another for a dark one, its own slogan, its own telephone numbers and its own place on a map. A site with one section looks like an ordinary site. A site with six looks like six.

That is why a newsroom and a shop can live at one address without either looking like the other.

The address is two parts, and never three

Everything a reader can open is /section/page. A third part of the address is only ever the name of one thing — an article, a product, a company — and it is legal only on a page whose job is to show one of those. A fourth part is always an error.

That rule is worth knowing early because it explains a limit you will meet: a page cannot live inside another page. What nests is the menu, which is what a reader actually sees.

The language lives on the page

A page belongs to exactly one language, and the language never appears in the address. If you want a site organised by language, name your sections after them — many do — but that is your choice and not a rule of the platform.
