Commerce

Commerce

Baskets, orders and payments — the engine every catalogue sells through. One basket and one payment, whether it holds a product, a course or a promoted listing.

Everything below is declared by Commerce itself, so it describes this deployment rather than a manual — and it is rewritten whenever the program changes.

What it is

  • Its key is Commerce, which is also the prefix of every component it owns.
  • It is bought: a site has it only when the registry records that this customer bought it.

What it may be allowed to do

These are the permissions it declares. A person sees one of its screens only where his role carries the matching permission.

  • commerce.manage
  • commerce.refund
  • commerce.view

What it puts on a page

4 components, each of which can be dropped onto a page in the composer.

Basket

What the visitor has put aside, and the way to pay for it.

Placed as Commerce.Cart.

One setting:

  • Offer a way back to the shop — a switch, left alone it is true. Drawn only where the section actually has a shop page to go back to.

Checkout

The form that turns a basket into an order.

Placed as Commerce.Checkout.

2 settings:

  • Ask for a telephone number — a switch, left alone it is true. Never required — a field somebody must fill in to buy is a field that loses buyers.
  • Offer a place for a note — a switch, left alone it is true.

Currency

Lets a reader choose which currency he sees prices in.

Placed as Commerce.CurrencySwitcher.

One setting:

  • Show the word beside it — a switch, left alone it is true. Off leaves the chooser alone, for a header with no room for a word.

Saved things

What a signed-in member has kept to come back to.

Placed as Commerce.Favourites.

2 settings:

  • Show what each one costs — a switch, left alone it is true. Off leaves the list as names and pictures, for a site that is not a shop.
  • Offer a basket button on each row — a switch, left alone it is true. Drawn only on a row that can actually be bought as things stand.
